It Aint over until it's over . . .

For all those who are ready to jump into the Charles or have completely focused their concentration on the beginnings of the NFL season and the fact that the B's are skating with purpose again, it's not over yet.

Let's break it down.

The Red Sox remaining schedule:

Three games vs. Baltimore at Fenway (including a doubleheader today)
Four games vs. New York at Yankee Stadium
Three games vs. Baltimore on the road (which isn't really on the road because there are so many sox fans there)

The Yankees remaining schedule:

One game vs. Minnesota @ home
Four games vs. Tampa Bay @ home (including a doubleheader on Wednesday)
Three games vs. Tampa Bay in Tampa

The Ray remaining schedule:

Four games vs. New York in @ Yankee Stadium (including a doubleheader tomorrow)
Three games vs. Toronto at home
Three games vs. New York

There are way too many scenarios to try and map out the remaining 10 games and how everything is going to work out, but say by some crazy miracle let's just take the next four games and look at one scenario.

Red Sox sweep Baltimore (4 wins and a day off on Thursday):

The sox are the only team that have a scheduled day off after today until the end of the season and the sox have a double header vs. baltimore as opposed the yankees and the rays who are have a double header scheduled for Wednesday

Yankees lose to Minnesota and then get swept by Tampa.


So then you are at Friday September 23 with six games left to go for each team.

Possible Standings would be:


American League East GB

Yankees - 91-65           -----
Red Sox - 91-65           -----
Tampa Bay - 89 - 67     2.5

Then each team would have the following schedule remaining:

Red Sox:

Three games @ New York against the Yankees
Three games @ Baltimore against the Orioles

Yankees:

Three games @ home vs. Boston
Three games in Tampa against the Rays

Tampa Bay:

Three games @ home vs. Toronto
Three games @ home vs. New York

If the Sox were to sweep the Yankees and Tampa swept Yankees, the standings would look like this:

American League East GB

Red Sox - 94-65            -----
Yankees - 91-65            1.5
Tampa Bay - 92 - 67      2.0


Now obviously, that is a crazy scenario and asking a team that is the Red Sox to go and win seven straight games after losing nine out their last 11 is pretty ridiculous.

But the sox would only need one out of the next three games to wrap up the division and the yankees would be playing a best-of-three series that would determine the wild card winner.

This is why baseball is so much better than the other three professional sports, because of the limited number of teams that make it to the playoffs each year.

I really hope MLB doesn't expand and add another wild card team.

Welcome back to Yankeehate.com. The summer of 2011 is an exciting time as this site comes back to the internet from the dead. It looked like it wasn't going to happen for the longest time, but the dream is alive.

Standings update:

With the sox totally giving a game away last and preventing Wakefield from his 200th win in his seventh attempt. The knuckle-baller threw five innings and had a chance to get the W, but the sox bullpen blew the game.

The only happiness in this loss was that the Yankees were defeated by the Orioles 5-4 in extra innings. The Sox are 2.5 games behind the Yankees for first place and they are 7 games up on the Wild Card with a an important series against Tampa Bay starting on Thursday after wrapping up the series with Toronto tonight.

If the Sox went through and swept the Tampa Bay series, they could have a double-digit game in the wild card with less than 20 games left in the season.

Bye Bye - Book of Faces!

Facebook is shut down for a while, I really have no clue how this is going to turn out. I don't have a lot of confidence in myself. I tried it before when I first moved back to New Hampshire in November, 2009, and it was an epic fail.

But now I have pretty much connected with everyone I have wanted to connect with. I think I will be able to shut it down for a while so that I can focus on turning this whole idea of disconnecting into a book.

I'm trying to peel myself away from technology one step at a time. Facebook seems like to be the biggest waist of time that I have ever run into. It does have its benefits, but imagine how many man hours are wasted on a social networking sites in offices throughout the United States.

Tonight, I noticed how people were so tethered to their phones and relying on them. As we were organizing a little get together over my place. People showing up here and there, getting a little lost, calling, calling, calling.

TOO MUCH STATIC:

The Television is next. I mean by barely watch TV as it is. I think the Daily Show and The Colbert Report will get an exception. One hour of TV can't be too bad. I can remember when I was kid, my sister and I were allowed 1 hour of television during the summer. Do you know what show we chose to watch? The Price Is Right. I still love that show, but that's another topic for another time.

With no TV and no Facebook, how will I get to watch random videos of people making fools of themselves? I probaby won't. I'm still trying to finish reading 3 books. Email will be the best way to correspond with me during my facebook shut down time, timcroes @ gmail.com but I will continue to accept text messages to my 603.998.4022 number.

I am trying to switch over to a texting only plan with Verizon. I used to be anti-text but I now think texting is actually a healthier form of contact. But then again there is no tone in text messaging, or it is very hard to establish it with 100% accuracy.

Btw, how much time do people save by eliminating single letters from words like "txt" does dropping the e really make a huge difference?

Back to the distractions, hopefully getting rid of facebook will allow me to sit down at my computer and actually write. I know when I was writing for the newspaper in Virginia, I wasn't allowed to use facebook, it was actually blocked.

There were plenty of other distractions on the Internets that got my attention and
took my focus away from the task at hand.

Five years ago, A Perfect Circle released their new CD, Emotive, with a cover of Lennon's Imagine. Isn't it amazing how words written so far ago can be applied to today? Do you know why?

It is simple.

The Beatles were like no other band in the history of music. They started a revolution, not a revolution in music. A revolution in society!!!

Growing up in the 60s and 70s during a time when drugs were used by everyone must have been intense. That is when my parents grew up and I wish I could go back in time. You know why it was so cool? Computers, cell phones, mp3 players, 24 hour news networks, all that stuff didn't exist. People had their music and that was it. I mean television existed, but it wasn’t a controlling medium like it is today.

Reality TV is the biggest load of bullshit that the media has ever produced and anyone associated with most reality television in general should be fired. "Television, you are fired!!!"

I actually like shows like the Amazing Race and Survivor, even though I don’t watch them I understand the appeal.

E-mail, text messaging, and any type of communication that wasn't around five, ten, even fifteen years ago. What effect has it had on society? Society now is so fast, get it, get it, got it, phew I checked my e-mail on my cell phone and got my stock quote. That saved me at least five minutes. Why doesn't everyone just get some electric scissors? (Thank you David Cross for pointing that out)

Do you ever think about growing up ten years ago when computers weren't as integrated into society as they are now? It would be so different. I mean I know nine-year-olds who have cell phones with a camera built into it that also checks their email. What is next on the technology scale?

Next time you want to make a phone call to someone on their cell phone call their "landline" phone (what you don't have their landline phone? I guess you don't the person very well. What they don't have a landline phone? Oh that makes sense because who needs a phone at home!!!)

The benefits of a cell phone are far outweighed by its effect on society as a whole. Same thing goes for GPS (It is like porn on the internet, it is here to stay in a big way.) Who knows if it really gives you cancer? If it does my whole generation will die of "brain cancer" by the time that we are 40.

I wish I could get rid of my cell phone, but I just signed a new contract and can't do it now because it would cost me 125 dollars and right now I have a combined 100 dollars in my two checking accounts.

Take an hour, a day, a week, a weekend, a month, something and don't use anything electric just go outside and do something. Go on the porch and read a good book. What you don't have any books? Go to library and borrow a good book. (Right now I’m reading Faith by Mitch Albom and the Peter Jennings Biography) Don't buy a magazine, you will get distracted and not read it or just throw it in the bathroom for toilet time.

I guarantee you will enjoy yourself. I love listening to music, but recently have been reading a lot and find it just as good. I mean when you read a 200 page hardcover book that is a commitment. It is not something that is going to be over in two hours like a crappy movie like "Sex in the City 2"

I thought it was spot on. Brought up a lot of good points about the history of the B's and the 3-0 references were pretty amazing. That's a lot of digging around for good facts that back up his story.

Celtcs vs. The Lebrons (Game 4 - Live Blog)

This is my first attempt at this so it will probably not be very entertaining or read by anyone in real time:

Celtics tied 67-67. Can they escape the third quarter with a lead?

I just muted my TV

Can't stand these three guys

Closing quarters is always so important can the Celtics do it?

End of 3rd quarter and the score is Celtics by two, 74-72. Let's hope the officials don't make a bunch of awful calls give to the Lebrons a commanding 3-1 lead, basically ending the series.

Finally came together on the court, Celtics up by 10, Tony Allen is bringing it all together.

After that play predicting final score 100-86.

Rondo just hit a runner to put the Celtics up 92-85 with 1:28 left and the Celtics looking good for the W.

Pierce, two free throws, 94-85.

Less than a minute to go!!!!

UNMUTED the TV. Let's see if Mike Breen and his two coworkers can finish strong.

Worst night in Boston sports in a while . . .

As I sat down in front of my television on Friday night, with three games on the schedule (well really two because the third was on a television station that also airs bull-riding competitions but I'll get to that) I was hoping for two out of three victories.

For anyone not aware, the Red Sox were hosting the Yankees on NESN, the Celtics were hosting the Lebron's in the third game of the Eastern Conference semifinals on ESPN and the Bruin's traveled to Philadelphia to try and sweep the Flyers in the NHL playoffs.

Well, I can say this, the highlight of the whole night was the footage of the 82nd air born dropping in on parachutes to Fenway Park.

The Sox got crushed, Beckett gave up nine runs, the Celtics played the worst game of their entire NBA season in front a home crowd that never got into the game, and the Bruin's (this is strictly through highlights from VS.) lost in OT 5-4.

I was looking forward to a delightful evening, at least I didn't travel to Boston, which I had plans to do, and watch in front of other die-hard fans of their beloved New England teams.

Sunday has to be better right???

Tiger is back . . .

Well, Tiger Woods made his triumphant return to the course this past weekend and I couldn't be happier. I'm sitting in front of my computer counting the minutes until 2:30 when he tees off and tries to win his first major while trailing after 54 holes.

Does he have a shot? Probably not, but will I watch? You betcha. The whole Tiger Woods fiasco has been totally blown out of proportion and has become the biggest sports story in the TMZ/24-hour news network cycle. Tiger cheated on his wife, a bunch of times, but in the end, he is just a golfer that people, including myself want to see succeed.

I would love to see him come and win The Masters and then maybe the media and others can stop talking about his cheating ways and starting talking about his skills on the golf course.

And that new Nike ad, just a creepy ghost voice of his dad talking that in no way makes me want to buy shoes. But hey everyone and their sister is talking about. And as they say, any PR is good PR.
